For me, feng shui has taken on a very interpretive role in the art work I am doing. It seems not a day goes by that I don’t create an image to magnify what I intend. I don’t really have one piece in particular that stands out, but there are a few that have gone on to accomplish tasks where I could not travel myself.
         

I have a very dear friend who went through a tough summer. She was a professor of mine when I was at school in Arizona around 2008. We have kept in touch since then and she is one of the brightest light sin my life. We correspond mostly by long phone calls and voice mail tag every few weeks or so.
         

She had recently moved to Mississippi to pursue a tenured position as the Head of Cognition (a branch of Psychology related specifically to brain function). I was thrilled for her to really step into her power and reap the rewards of all her years of hard work. Unfortunately, with all of this growth and abundance around her, the universe evened out the scale.
         

Her travels had brought a new relationship into her life. She had begun dating a man in her new town, and it became very serious. She was talking about marriage and moving in together. She couldn’t have been happier with her life’s path in all aspects. I was planning on attending the wedding and began happily shopping for the perfect gift for my friend.
          

Two months later, I called to get her new address to send her something. I discover through that conversation that her fiance had committed suicide the night before on the porch of their newly purchased home. He tried desperately to kill her in the process, but luckily failed. She was left shaken at best. You always hear about bad things happening on the late night news, but you never expect it to shatter the world of a friend.
          

I wondered what I could possibly do or even say to bring some light back into her life. Luckily, LuAnn provided the perfect solution (she”s good like that). Because I could not travel to Mississippi and help her in person, I scheduled a remote clearing of her home from Pennsylvania. It sounds a little out there, but remember that the power of intention knows no bounds ( even geographical ones).
          

She sent me a rendering of her floor plan ( just like doing the initial paperwork for a consultation). I used my pendulum to dowse over the rooms and simply asked it to take me wherever I needed to clear. It took a very long time, but it was very worth it. My friend reported a dramatic improvement in the energy of her home, and it lifted her to know that I was caring for her from even so far away.
           

This week, I sent her an art piece after another one of our long phone calls. It is a poem about seasons in our lives. For this piece, I created an alter and pulled some cards while I was still on the phone with her. Using the messages from the reading, I planned the composition. I created it outside in the bright, summer sun light. The colors were a wash of ethereal watercolor with a sort of calligraphy for the painted font. I was listening to sitar music and thinking of her.
           

The piece should be arriving any day now, and whether or not it is “perfect” is immaterial. What we do with our feng shui is very small compared to the spirit in which we do it. I was able to help my friend through a terribly dark time. If I never do another art piece for a client, or a consultation, or a conference it was worth it.
